SUSTAINABILITY
Our SDGs Commitment
A place to live, learn and work with peace of mind — even outside the big cities.
Through our business, we are building resilient, sustainable communities.
MESSAGE
Strong in a crisis. A place where people grow.
My starting point was the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011. The northern Kanto region was also hit by strong shaking, and rolling blackouts continued after the quake. Even though we were in an affected area, we lived through days when electricity, traffic lights and other infrastructure that supports daily life came to a stop.
When power is limited, protecting the functions of cities where many people live is also necessary. At the same time, I learned first-hand that in an emergency, life in rural areas can come second. Rural communities, above all, need to be prepared to protect their own way of life. That conviction is the starting point of our business today.
In Japan, a major disaster strikes somewhere almost every year. PHYTON itself suffered lightning damage last year, and this year heavy rain flooded part of our premises and strong winds caused further damage. Economic and international conditions are also hard to foresee, and risks such as conflict cannot be ignored. That is why I feel the importance of being prepared more strongly than ever.
Meanwhile, the working-age population in rural areas is shrinking year by year. Distance from major cities also creates gaps in income, education, access to information, and the time and cost of getting around. I want to create more places where people of any gender can learn, work and contribute to their community without leaving the place where they grew up.
Some people give up on their dreams or further education, or start working before they have had the chance to learn enough, because of family circumstances or financial reasons. I want PHYTON to be a place where each of them can keep learning while they work and live their life to the fullest.
Through our business, we will contribute to building communities that are resilient in emergencies and where people can grow.
